Beaver DNA Test Quick Notes
- Turnaround time: 5 working days
- Sample type: plucked fur
Over the past decade, major efforts have been underway to reintroduce beavers into the British countryside to help tackle climate and biodiversity emergencies. It is currently illegal for beavers to be released in England which means that reintroduction currently involves captive release schemes in large enclosures to monitor their impact on the environment.
Beavers are known as a keystone species which can provide ecosystem services such as a reduction in flooding and engineering of habitats which support and increased diversity of species.
As the beaver lacks obvious anatomical features and accurate method of sex determination is important for these projects. chXout® provides a beaver DNA test service which uses PCR based techniques to amplify selective regions of the X or Y chromosomes to determine beaver gender from a fur sample.
